Preserving the Landscape of Pre-war Japan
The Fukae Heritage Museum Annex is the renovated former Koda residence built in 1935, with a site area of 2,000 square meters and a building area of around 600 square meters. The Koda family served as the leaders of Fukae Village during the Edo period of the 18th and 19th centuries, and continued to be involved in the village administration even after the Meiji period of the early 20th century.
The main building of this residence is a modern Japanese-style house. The first floor has a formal hall and tearoom for serving guests, while the second floor has small rooms originally meant as living space. In addition, the front gate as well as two storehouses are lined up in a row facing the road, preserving the nostalgic appearance of pre-war Japan (the early Showa era.) In November 2022, the front gate, storehouse, dry tower, fence, and main building were registered as national tangible cultural properties.
